𝗪𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝗮𝘆 𝗬𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯 is a welcoming community for local sailing, visiting sailors, and life by the sea. Whether you’re an experienced sailor or new to sailing, the club offers a relaxed space to spend time on the water and be part of the coastal community. 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗬𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯’𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 The story of Walvis Bay Yacht Club began when a group of sailing enthusiasts shared the idea of forming a yacht club in Walvis Bay. On 21 November 1960, they met for the first time following an invitation published in the Namib Times by 𝗪𝘂𝗹𝗳 𝗟𝗼𝘀𝗰𝗵 - a meeting that marked the beginning of the club. 𝗩𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗼 𝗟𝘂𝗻𝗱, who had links to the 𝗥𝗼𝘆𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗬𝗮𝗰𝗵𝘁 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯, obtained a copy of their constitution, which was then adapted to align with our purpose. This led to the inaugural meeting held on 24 April 1961 at the Mermaid Hotel, chaired by 𝗠𝗿. 𝗟𝘂𝗻𝗱. The meeting proceeded smoothly, marking an important step in the club’s establishment. On Sunday, 22 March 1964, the clubhouse was officially opened. The building was blessed by 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗘.𝗝. 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝘀𝗼𝗻-𝗛𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗲𝘀, Chaplain to the Mission to Seamen, and the ceremonial ribbon was cut by 𝗠𝗿𝘀. 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘀𝘆 𝗕𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗺𝗮 wife of Mayor 𝗖𝗹𝗹𝗿 𝗠.𝗖. (𝗕𝗼𝗲𝘁) 𝗕𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗺𝗮. This occasion brought the first phase of the club’s history to a close in less than three years. Today, Walvis Bay Yacht Club continues to welcome sailors from near and far. The clubhouse overlooks the Marina and is known for its sunset views, offering a relaxed and friendly place to gather and enjoy the coastal life Namibia is known for. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗮’𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁.
